The new composite carbon source is a novel carbon source supplement. It appears as a colorless, light yellow, or brownish liquid. It is composed of two or more compatible (non-reactive) single carbon sources from methanol, ethanol, butanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, n-propanol, glycerol, acetic acid, sodium acetate, citric acid, sodium citrate, glucose, sucrose, and starch, making it a risk-free carbon source.
The new composite carbon source is mainly used to supplement organic carbon elements in the biological denitrification process of wastewater and sewage, with the following advantages.
1. The new composite carbon source is composed of various short-chain small molecules, which are beneficial for the proliferation and utilization of diverse microorganisms in biochemical systems.
2. Compared to traditional carbon sources like sodium acetate, the COD equivalent can be increased by two to three times, saving costs in transportation and usage.
3. The new composite carbon source produces low sludge volume, does not freeze outdoors in winter, and has stable, non-flammable properties, making it a good environmentally friendly carbon source.
4. Rapid startup: It enables microorganisms to quickly adapt to the environment and initiate metabolic processes, shortening the startup time of wastewater treatment systems.
5. Stable treatment effect: Due to its diverse components, it can continuously and stably provide carbon sources for microorganisms, ensuring the stability of wastewater treatment effects. Even with fluctuations in water quality and quantity, microorganisms can maintain good activity.
6. Strong adaptability: It is suitable for various types of wastewater treatment processes, such as activated sludge and biofilm methods, and can be adjusted according to different water qualities and treatment requirements.Mechanism of action
The new composite carbon source mainly provides carbon elements for microorganisms. In the biochemical reactions of wastewater treatment, microorganisms utilize the composite carbon source for metabolism, decomposing and transforming pollutants (such as nitrogen and phosphorus) in the wastewater.

The mass fractions of total phosphorus, total nitrogen, chlorides, and sulfates in the products listed in the table are calculated based on a chemical oxygen demand (CODcr) of 2.5×103 mg/L. When CODcr > 2.5×10⁵ mg/L, the actual chemical oxygen demand is converted to CODcr of 2.5×10'mg/L for the corresponding mass fraction calculation.
