Anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) is a linear polymer.
Structural Characteristics
The molecular chain of anionic polyacrylamide carries a certain amount of negatively charged groups, such as carboxyl (-COOH), which can ionize hydrogen ions in water, giving the molecular chain a negative charge.
Physical and Chemical Properties
1. Appearance: Generally white granules or powder.
2. Solubility: Easily soluble in water, the dissolved solution is a transparent viscous liquid.
3. Molecular Weight: The molecular weight ranges from several million to over twenty million, and products with different molecular weights have different properties and uses.
Mechanism of Action
1. Adsorption Bridging Action: By adsorbing suspended particles in water through the active groups on the molecular chain, multiple particles are connected together to form flocculent precipitates, thereby removing suspended matter from water.
2. Charge Neutralization Action: Utilizing its own negative charge to attract positively charged suspended particles in water, neutralizing the charge and promoting particle aggregation.
Main Uses
1. Water Treatment Field: Used for the treatment of industrial wastewater and domestic sewage, it has a good flocculation effect on suspended solids and organic matter, effectively reducing turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and other indicators of wastewater.
2. Papermaking Industry: Can improve the strength of paper and is used as a paper strengthening agent. It can also improve the uniformity of paper, helping it to form better during the papermaking process.
3. Mining Field: Used for dewatering tailings in the mineral processing process, improving the solid-liquid separation efficiency of tailings.
Anionic polyacrylamide is widely used in industrial sectors such as water treatment, papermaking, petroleum, coal, mining, geology, light textiles, and construction. It is used as a sedimentation flocculant, oilfield water injection enhancer, drilling mud treatment agent, textile slurry, grade enhancement agent, fiber modifier, soil conditioner, soil stabilizer, fiber raw material, resin processing agent, adhesive, dispersant, etc.
