Polyaluminum chloride is widely used in sewage treatment, drinking water purification and other fields.
Polymeric aluminum chloride (Polyaluminum Chloride, referred to as PAC) is a water treatment agent, its working principle is mainly through coagulation, flocculation and sedimentation three processes to achieve water purification.
First, when polyaluminum chloride is added to water in solid or liquid form, its internal aluminum ions (Alb³) react with hydroxide ions (OH) in water to form aluminum hydroxide colloid. These colloids are positively charged and can interact with pollutants such as negatively charged suspended solids, colloidal substances, organic matter and heavy metal ions in water to form complexes.
During the coagulation process, these complexes gradually aggregate to form larger flocs. The aluminum ions in polyaluminium chloride can not only react with alkaline substances in water to generate aluminum hydroxide colloid, but also form complexes with chloride ions (Cl), providing additional aggregation conditions and promoting the formation of flocs.
Subsequently, in the flocculation process, the flocs formed gradually settle to the bottom of the water due to gravity and charge, thereby achieving solid-liquid separation. The sedimentation rate depends on the density and size of the flocs, and the addition of polyaluminium chloride can effectively increase the density and size of the flocs and accelerate the sedimentation process.
In addition, polyaluminum chloride also showed strong electrical neutralization, bridging adsorption of hydrolysis products and selective adsorption of soluble substances, which further enhanced its removal effect on pollutants in water.
In summary, polyaluminum chloride through coagulation, flocculation and precipitation process, effectively remove suspended solids, colloids, organic matter and heavy metal ions and other pollutants in water, thereby improving water quality, is widely used in sewage treatment, drinking water purification and other fields.
